Lemstanas and Sandviken

We had an early start flying west across from Finland to Sweden and it was barely 9am when we were forced to divert due to poor weather. We were glad that we did - Lemstanas in Dala is home to a wonderful gliding club with some really interesting and helpful members. The large town in the area is Sandviken - home to the company Sandvik that has large operations in Australia.

Here are the guys at the club - we helped the car bingo even that they were hosting that evening by eating many hotdogs :)

Paul (below) took us at a print shop that was bought by the council when it stopped operating 80 years ago. It hasn't been touched since so it makes a brilliant museum. We played with all the letters and old printing machines. Here Paul is holding a Wetterlings axe which are made locally. We bought one the next day. The security man at Bergen airport wasn't thrilled to see Helen whip it out of her bag and throw it into the plane before we were escorted off the secure area of the apron.

Paul's German Roland microlight has an amazing 10 hrs fuel capacity and an aileron hinging system that I've never seen before - just a sheet of metal as the hinge!

We visited a traditional farm - this is a special timber collecting sleigh;

Print letters;

Old School (turn of century) Wetterlings catalogues printed by the printshop.

Check it out - aileron hinged by a flap of metal;

Axe throwing target at the Wetterlings factory. Nice.

Soon to be axe handles;

Enjoying the updates, seems like an interesting trip so far, to say the least! Keep them coming... cc
